The MAG story

Dreamt up by four friends, MAG Instruments grew from a small-town dream into a global force in handpan-making. Explore our origins and read the story that started it all.

How it
all began

MAG Instruments was born from the convergence of craftsmanship and musical artistry. The journey began with Ricsi and Peti, two inventive minds who, even as students, explored the possibilities of metal shaping in their high school’s technical workshop. At the same time, Patrik and Áron, both musicians deeply drawn to the expressive potential of the handpan, encountered its challenges firsthand—most notably when Patrik’s instrument fell out of tune, requiring a personal visit to the original maker for restoration.

This experience planted a seed: what if they could craft their own instruments? By chance, the two duos met, and a shared vision began to take shape.

From that serendipitous meeting emerged MAG Instruments—a company built on precision, passion, and the pursuit of sonic beauty.

Crafting handpan with a purpose

From the start, our goal was simple: create handpans that musicians
could truly rely on. We poured ourselves into perfecting every detail,
testing materials, refining processes, and striving for instruments
that combined beauty with precision.

A Commitment to Innovation

Innovation has always been at the core of what we do. We
experiment constantly, with new manufacturing methods
to improve the balance, stability, and aesthetics of the instruments. These experiments often led to failures and these failures were our greatest teachers.

One of our proudest milestones has been Neotone — the world’s first true digital handpan. This project gave us a chance to merge traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

For us, innovation means opening new doors, creating tools that inspire musicians, and expanding what’s possible in music.

Building a Community

We’ve always believed in the power of community. That’s why we co-founded the Hungarian Handpan & Worldmusic Gathering (HUG), a festival where players, makers, and enthusiasts can connect, learn, and celebrate the art of the handpan.

We’re also committed to giving back through partnerships with organizations like the Handpan Community United (HCU). Supporting the global handpan community means as much to us as crafting the instruments themselves.

As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to what brought us
to this point: crafting exceptional instruments and supporting the
people who play them. For MAG, the journey is just as important as
the destination, and the best is yet to come…
